Weekly Year Level Updates

Hello Prep Families,

What a wonderful term we have had with our Preps filled with lots of learning and joy. We would like to acknowledge their hard work and the successes that they have achieved throughout this term. We hope that you all have a lovely and restful break and can’t wait to see the Preps ready for more learning and fun in term 3.

Student Led Conferences:

Thank you to all the families who made time to attend our student led conferences. We hope you all walked out as proud as we are of your child’s learning achievements this semester.

Parent Website:

Just a reminder that we have a parent website that all prep families have access to.  This is where you will be able to locate all resources and information that you may need to support your child. You can also access the website by following this link: https://sites.google.com/education.vic.gov.au/kcps-prep-2023/prepping-for-prep

Dear Grade One Families,

Congratulations to all our students on participating in their Student-Parent-Teacher Conferences. They confidently shared their achievements and reflected on their goals for Semester 2.

In Reading, students have continued learning how to summarise fiction texts in their own words. They have been introduced to different graphic organisers to support them summarising only the important details of the story.

In Writing, students were inspired by the ‘Wheels to School’ experiences and drafted a variety of writing pieces from persuading others that bikes are better than scooters to explaining why wearing a helmet is so important. Students focused on their word choice and experimented with using topic specific language, as well as building their ability to use precise verbs and adjectives.

In Numeracy, students used their knowledge about counting collections and skip counting to count a collection of money. Students role played using money in the classroom shop where they counted their money accurately to purchase different items.

In Inquiry, students reflected on our central idea ‘People take on roles and responsibilities to build a community’. They have taken action by creating roles and responsibilities to make our classrooms function better.

Reminders:

  • School returns on Monday 15 July
  • There will be NO homework during the first week of term 3, however, we will continue with our take home reading program. Homework will begin in week 2.
  • Olympics Dress Up Day will be held on Friday 26 July. Students can dress up in their country’s colours for a gold coin donation. There is also a special lunch order menu available for the day. Online orders will be only accepted and due by 17th July.

We would like to say a huge thank you to all of our students and families for a successful term and semester. Now it is time to rest and recharge ourselves.

The Grade One team would like to wish everyone a safe and wonderful holiday. We can’t wait to see you all in Term 3.

Kind Regards,

Natalie (H10), Jasmine (H11), Abbey (H12), Ana (H13), Renee (H14), Amanda (H15), Laura (H15) and Jade (H16)

Dear Grade 2 families,

We are thrilled with how much the students have succeeded this term and we would like to express our gratitude for the hard work all families have put in this term. All of the Grade 2 teachers are extremely proud of our student’s hard work in preparing and presenting at the Student Led Conferences this week! We hope our families enjoyed this opportunity to gain an insight into your child’s learning.

This week through our Unit of Inquiry, we have reflected on the unit on light and sound; evaluating what worked, what could be improved and what the students want to see more of.

In Reading, the students commemorated NAIDOC week by reading dreamtime stories and discussing them.

In Writing, students have enjoyed innovating the story “Rainbow Bear”.

In Numeracy we have continued with data collection and investigated further into the importance of collecting data when conducting an experiment. Students have also used their data to explore the probabilities of different results.

A few reminders:

  • Whilst homework is not distributed over the school holidays, we encourage you to use Mathletics, Reading Eggs etc
  • Students will have a Wicked Weather incursion in Term 3. Please make payment on the compass by 17 July.

We wish you a wonderful and safe holiday and look forward to welcoming students back for Term 3 on the 15th of July.

From Cassie, Rebekah, Monique, Emily, Eleanor, Taylah and Preet.

Dear Families,

We would like to congratulate all students on a successful first semester of school. They have done exceptionally well throughout the semester, and we hope you were able to observe so during SLC.

Seeing you all at SLC and watching you be a part of your child’s learning journey was a joy. Thank you again for coming.

We wish everyone a happy and safe break and will see you all on Monday the 15th of July for the start of Term 3.

If you wish to do some revision tasks over the holidays such as Mathletics, Reading Eggs etc, all of your child’s passwords for the apps/websites they have access to at home are on Compass under the ‘Insights’ tab.

All the best,

The Grade Three Team

Bianca, Anne, Giorgia, Jamila, Jayde, Kafa, Yasemin and Sam

Dear Families,

Thank you for a fabulous Term! We are so proud of all the efforts of our fabulous Year 4 students and loved seeing them shine in their student-led conferences this week.

We have concluded our ‘How the World Works’ unit and have seen the students develop into engineers, building designing and testing forces.

We have published our writing considering different layout choices. We can now show our understanding for fiction and non-fiction texts by synthesising.

Some Year 4 classes even celebrated a fantastic term of AiA points with a class party or reward. We are definitely now tired and ready for the holidays.

School starts back Monday the 15th of July! Have a happy and safe holiday! See you then.

 Kind regards,

The Year 4 Team

Clayton (H32), Ashlee and Escher (H33), Gabriel (H34), Deanna (H35), Dharma (H36), Beth (H37), Krystal (H38) and Chloe and Romy (H39)

Dear parents and guardians,

The Grade 5’s has had an incredible week establishing themselves as learners and leaders. Throughout the ASPIRE incursion, students learnt all about different leadership skills, who they are as leaders, how they can set an example and influence others, and showcased these skills as they participated in numerous collaborative team games.

This week, the grade 5’s has been working hard to be transdisciplinary with our unit of inquiry and literacy. They have been experimenting with a variety of persuasive devices to appeal to a target audience by creating amazing ads through different mediums.

In numeracy, our mathematicians were using their prior knowledge to solve problems using various multiplicative thinking strategies and collaboratively sharing their thinking with others.

Reminders:

  • SLPT conferences are held on Tuesday, 25th June from 3:45-5:30PM and Wednesday, 26th June from 12:00-6:15PM (Student free day)
  • Reports sent out on Monday, 24th June.
  • Last day of Term 2 is Friday, 28th June, 1:30PM.
  • First day of Term 3 begins, Monday, 15th July.

We hope you all have an enjoyable weekend.

The Grade 5 Team

Dear families,

What a fantastic final week of Term 2 we have had in Grade 6.

Thank you to all the families who attended our conferences this week. With your support, our Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences were a great success. The students worked very hard over the past few weeks to prepare and practise for these and were so excited to share their learning with you.

Our current unit of inquiry is still taking place in our classrooms, with only a few more weeks remaining. Students have been exploring catalysts for the development of Australia as a nation and have been researching into areas of their personal interest. We will continue this work once returning to school in Term 3.

In Literacy this week, we have celebrated NAIDOC week as this event is taking place over the school holidays. Students inquired into Indigenous Australians throughout history and created biographies to share with their peers.

We hope all families have a safe and restful break. We are looking forward to an exciting term ahead.

Reminders:

  • 15th July: First Day of Term 3
  • Swimming will commence again next term. It is an expectation that students will participate in the swimming program. If there is a reason why your child cannot attend swimming for a week, please let your classroom teacher know.

Disability Inclusion

Kororoit Creek Primary School is excited to introduce Disability Inclusion, a new approach to help us improve support for students with disability and build a more inclusive school for all our students.

Inclusive schools have better outcomes in learning, engagement and wellbeing for all students.

Disability Inclusion will help our school better understand what our students need to help them learn, through:

  •   a new funding model with more investment
  •   a new strength-based process called the Disability Inclusion Profile to help identify the student’s needs and required adjustments
  •   more training and coaching for teachers and school staff about the best ways to support student learning.

A new funding model with more investment

The new funding model provides additional investment that our school can use to support many students including those with autism, learning difficulties and more.

This additional investment will provide more support for students with disability, including students who haven’t been eligible for individual funding through the Program for Students with Disabilities (PSD) in the past.

Our school can use this funding for a range of activities including

  •   more training and professional development for teachers and school staff
  •   getting expert advice about disability
  •   hiring teachers or other staff to help plan and deliver changes for students
  •   equipment and resources to support learning.

The Disability Inclusion Profile

The Disability Inclusion Profile will help us find out more about your child’s strengths and needs. It will inform personalised funding allocations, help us plan student learning and any changes a student may need to better learn.

The new Disability Inclusion Profile process will replace the Educational Needs Questionnaire used as a part of the current PSD.Disability Inclusion img 300x282

As we transition over the next three years, families of students who are part of the PSD will be asked to attend a meeting to complete a Disability Inclusion Profile.

People who know your child will be involved in the meeting, along with an independent, trained facilitator who will help our school and families complete the profile.

If your child is part of the PSD, we will work with you to find the most suitable time to complete their profile.

The profile will also be available to a broad group of students with high needs.

We will identify students who are not currently part of the PSD, who may benefit from a Disability Inclusion Profile. If we consider that your child’s education will benefit from having a profile, we will contact you.

More training and coaching for teachers and school staff

Disability Inclusion will give more teachers and support staff a better understanding of disability and how to respond. This could include access to:

  •   more professionals in schools who are experts in disability
  •   coaching
  •   professional learning
  •   evidence-based guidance and resources
  •   scholarships.
